This book was written in response to a request from a publishing house in Cracow to be part of a series, "A Retreat with ...", which turns to the great masters of spirituality, like St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila and St. Francis of Assisi. Each work is an anthology of texts from the spiritual author, organized in a way to help meditation on a retreat. St. Josemaria Escriva had very wide experience in preaching retreats, and in the middle of the twentieth century introduced a new approach to this traditional means of spiritual formation. Since the original publication in Polish at the time of St. Josemaria's canonization in 2002, new works have been published which include notes from retreats St. Josemaria gave in the 1940's. The publishers of this edition have revised the original text and included some of the material, hitherto unpublished in English
