Catechism 101 (CD)

St John's Centre - Andrew Wood
$5.00

In this talk Andrew Wood introduces you to the ‘Catechism of the Catholic Church,’ and some of the most fundamental ideas about the Catholic Faith. He does so in this brief, but highly informative commentary on paragraphs 26 to 100 of the Catechism.

In our pluralistic modern world we can often be confused about the nature of faith. With so many different religions in our world it seems like the only notion of ‘faith’ we can ever have is that it is concerned with nothing other than what we personally and privately believe. In this talk Andrew will show you what the Catholic Church means by ‘faith’ and ‘belief,’ and that it is something for which we can have the greatest certitude. After looking at the fundamental idea of ‘faith’ and how the Church’s belief is summarised in the Creed, Andrew turns his attention to paragraphs 27 to 30 of the Catechism and shows us that it is only God that has the capacity to totally fulfil the human heart, as Saint Augustine of Hippo once said, “O God, you have made us for yourself and our hearts can never rest until they rest in you!”

After this Andrew looks at the two ways of knowing God, through the light of natural reason and divine Revelation, as spoken of in paragraphs 31 to 72. Under the first aspect Andrew provides a quick, easy to understand proof for God’s existence. This then leads Andrew into looking at the notion of Divine Revelation where he shows the beauty of what God has so lovingly done by revealing his most intimate self to mankind. Finally, looking at what the Church proposes as God’s revelation of himself Andrew gives a short exposé of paragraphs 74 to 100 and the relation between Scripture, Tradition and the Church’s Magisterium.

This talk is a must for anyone wanting to understand the fundamentals of the Catholic Faith.
