The Eucharist as Yahweh’s 'Sacrum Convivium' (a Sacred Banquet) for All Nations

When we consider the Eucharist there are usually three aspects on which to focus: Sacrifice, Real Presence of Jesus, and the Eucharist as a Sacred Meal. 

In this exciting talk Andrew Wood looks at the Eucharist as a Sacred Meal, or what theologians commonly call, the Sacrum Convivium or Sacred Banquet. Before the Fall of Adam and Eve, there was a beautiful harmony within God’s creation, and particularly with humanity. God created humans to be in familial relationship with Himself. The initial order within creation, however, was ruptured by Adam’s first sin which came about through a bad meal – eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Nevertheless, God promised to bring a restoration. As the Fall came through a bad meal, so the restoration would come through God’s Sacrum Convivium, or Sacred Banquet for all the nations.

In this enlightening talk Andrew Wood will show you how God had been preparing his people throughout Salvation History – from Adam and Eve through to Christ – to receive the Sacrum Convivium that Jesus had come to give in the Eucharist.
