The Thief Who Stole Heaven: A Tale of Dysmas - Robert M. Smith (Paperback)

When Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, there were two others crucified with Him. Tradition tells us their names. Dysmas and Gestus.

Dysmas is known to the world as “the good thief.” But who was he? And how did he come to be hanging upon a cross beside Jesus? The scriptural account explains how Jesus came to be there, and even why. But what of Dysmas?

Mix what we know from Scripture, and so much learned since then, with a fertile imagination, and you have, “A Tale of Dysmas.” The thief who literally stole heaven for himself, with his dying breath. Join us as we explore the unlikely yet plausible tale, of the life and adventures of the greatest thief in history.

    Best Ever Religious Fiction!

Beverley on Wed 4th Aug 2021

I was given this book after the death of my two sons. I was very engrossed with the book, but the strength and faith of the mothers was amazing to me, and helped me go through this difficult time. I have read many religious books over my life, and this book is the best I have ever read.

    Insightful and engaging!

Garrick on Tue 20th Jul 2021

Insightful and engaging historical fiction about a most unlikely disciple intermittently crossing paths with the man who was God but looked like a man. Like all good literature, it bristles with delight and meaning, often unexpected. A simple style disguises a complexity and depth comparable to human nature itself. A very human story that somehow all of us relive as we battle to live ideals that are worth living for.

    A Great Read!

Bert on Tue 20th Jul 2021

A Great read. Though I knew where it was going and what would happen in the end, it kept taking unexpected detours to places I didn't expect, personally introducing me to biblical characters and ideas. I went to visit Jesus and Mary in their home. Who does that??? As fiction goes it sure seemed real to me. Definitely recommend.

    Riveting & Moving!

David on Fri 16th Jul 2021

A Tale of Dysmas: This book is fascinating and therefore easy to read, at times charming, at times starkly brutal. I found it riveting and moving. I read my copy in a couple of days during Holy Week and was greatly moved by the experience. Smith writes with sensitivity and imagination while being constant in his regard for truth. He is a marvellous story-teller.

This captivating saga unfolds against the backdrop of the Roman occupation of Judea. The extraordinary story of the Good Thief, known as Dysmas, realistically depicts the culture and realities of life in the first century AD. The characters are vibrant and complex, and their dialogues witty, deep and beautiful. Full of unexpected events it makes a thrilling read.
